Solar PV technology converts sunlight into electricity using PV (photovoltaic) cells. The solar PV cells are placed in panels which are than grouped in modules. The modules are fastened to a racking system. The racking system can be fixed or may follow the sun with 1 or 2 axis for maximum power output (tracking system).

The solar racks are fastened with bolts to the base pole which is set up on concrete foundation in the ground. When installed by the thousands across in one location it creates a large-scale solar farm or power plant.

How do we design a solar farm?

We conduct a feasibility study for each project to deploy the optimal technology for the specific site based on the wind velocity and consistency, sun hours, radiation strength and length during the year, site contour, distance from the grid and complementary factors.

Our typical solar PV power plant consists of one axis tracking to “follow” the sun. This method increases efficiency by about 30% with special sensors that point the modules to the sun. We select the most potent cell technology to further increase the PV efficiency.

Advantages of Solar Energy

1. Renewable Energy Source

Solar energy is a renewable energy source! Solar farms can be developed in any location and is available 365 days a year. It is not possible to run out of solar energy.

2. Reduces Electricity Cost

Solar farm does not require any fuel. As it is powered by the sun and the sun rise every day like a Swiss clock, it is now becoming one of the cheapest sources of energy. As the technology develop further in coming years and the quantity increase it is expected to cost less.

3. Diverse Applications

Solar energy can be used for several purposes. We can generate electricity to power housing, factories, hospitals, schools and more. Solar farms can be used to generate green power in remote areas without access to the distribution grid, to distil water and to power sewage stations.

4. Low Maintenance Costs

Solar energy farms require very little maintenance. We have to keep them clean and monitor performance. Quality solar panels can last for 35-40 years. There are no moving parts in fixed structures so there is no wear and tear (in tracking system there is some wear and tear). The inverters can last for about 10 years as they convert solar DC energy into AC electricity. The electrical cables require some maintenance to ensure the solar power system runs at optimal efficiency.

5. Technology Development

Solar cell technology is advancing and improving every year. Innovations increases the efficiency of solar panels and as a result the electrical output of solar PV systems.
